South African Tribe’s Dolls – Support single mothers! –

Price: 2,000 yen (tax included)
Size: approximately 15 cm

Each doll has a different expression.

An ideal gift.

The dolls are handmade by single mothers in South Africa. Many tribes live in South Africa and in the neighboring countries. The dolls wear 9 different types of traditional costumes that are faithful to the originals. The faces of these handmade dolls are all different from each other, which makes them very attractive. You’ll surely get lost just choosing one.

The dolls are made in a local factory outside of Johannesburg. In South Africa, there are a lot of women who became single mothers because of HIV/AIDS and so on. They have difficulty in finding jobs and live hard lives. You can help make their life better through buying the dolls!

Breakdown of the price (2,000 yen) of a traditional doll
About 1,400 yen (~ 70% of the sales price) will be sent to South Africa, and after deducting material cost, the rest will be paid to single mothers to support their living expenses.
About 600 yen (~ 30% of the sales price) will be used by JVC, in which about 300 yen (~ 15%) will cover the shipping, transportation, and communication costs, and about 300 yen (~ 15%) will cover the activities for HIV/AIDS.

Animal Keychains and Figures – Fun to choose! –

Just like real animals!!

South Africa is famous for beadwork. These are bead keychains and figures in the shape of animals such as zebras, lions, and ostriches. It’s fun look at the color usage and the unique shapes of the animals. Big animal figures have a stronger impact than little keychains! You will be impressed that such beautiful art was made by hand only with beads and wires!! The unemployment rate of black Africans is very high (~ 60%), and there are a lot of people who cannot get stable jobs. These keychains and figures are made by such people. Buying their work would be a great support for them.

TOPSY Doll Keychains – Support people living with HIV/AIDS! –

What adorable dolls!!

Cute tiny doll keychains are jiggling! There are various types of dolls such as angels, girls, and boys. They are all different so it’s hard to choose your favorite.

South Africa has the highest number of people (6.1 million) living with HIV/AIDS in the world. It is still the most serious concern of the nation after the end of apartheid. Purchasing the beadwork made by HIV-positive patients will help improve their living conditions.

We purchase the doll keychains through the “Topsy Foundation”, a South African NGO which supports HIV/AIDS-positive patients.

Our activities

Palestine

Female groups of the Handala Culture Center in the Beit Jibrin refugee camp, Bethlehem, are making Palestinian embroidery with traditional designs and colors. JVC had supported their embroidery projects from the beginning, but now they work independently. The embroideries offer stable incomes for them and motivate their work as well.
